Dear Peter and the Entire Thomas Family,

It is an honor and privilege for me to announce the naming of the first annual YEO Arizona Chapter - Todd Thomas Outstanding Achievement Award. Each year this award will be given to a YEO Arizona chapter member to honor their outstanding contribution to YEO, our community and the world. The award will be presented at our Annual Holiday Party, during a season that perfectly embodies the award's essence.

I truly believe that Todd's spirit and essence live on in what we do to change the world around us, both individually and communally. The Todd Thomas Foundation is a perfect example of how Todd's spirit will bring forth change long into the future. I know neither my words, nor the naming of this award could ever substantially mitigate your loss, but I hope they will act to offer you some solace by honoring Todd's name in this way.

The Israeli poet Yehuda Amichai once described naming as "the primary cultural activity," the crucial first step anyone must take before embarking on thought. The British philosopher, economist and liberal thinker, John Stuart Mill declared that "The tendency has always been strong to believe that whatever received a name must be an entity or a being, having an independent existence of its own."

This award will certainly confirm that Todd's name will live on in our actions, thoughts, hopes and dreams in perpetuity.
